Josquin des Prez

Josquin Des Prez (1440-1521) was a member of the Franco-Flemish School of composers that included Dufay, Ockeghem, Obrecht, and others. Liz contributed a list of eleven works of Franco-Flemish School composers. These are referred to in this New Yorker article (optional). Lewis has selected 30 min. or so of some of those plus others.

Josquin — Ave Maria, Virgo Serena

Ockeghem — L'homme armé followed by Missa L'homme armé — Kyrie

Ockeghem — Missa Prolationum — Kyrie

    A motet in two parts.

Dufay — Missa L'homme armé — Agnus Dei

Listen from the beginning until about 03:27.

Josquin — Anne Boleyn's Songbook — Praeter rerum seriem

       L. Berman — opening of Fantasia for Woodwind Quintet

This piece began life as an exercies to write three phrases in the style of Ockeghem: the first having two voices, then three, then four. The third phrase is more like something a hundred years after Ockeghem. After that, like 450 years after Ockeghem.
