Music of Renewal

       Be the Change by Lily-Jo

Submitted by Deb, who writes,
When asked "What do you hope this song does for other people?" A: "I hope this song encourages others to be the change in their local community, whether that is in their household or with their neighbours. I want them to be reminded that putting other people first and serving others is really important for our mental health and wellbeing. I hope it helps people be the best versions of themselves that they can be!"

Dvorak — Largo from New World Symphony

Submitted by Myndall, who writes:
Composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. Astronaut Neil Armstrong took a tape recording of the New World Symphony along during the Apollo 11 mission, the first moon landing, in 1969.

Here's to Life — Shirley Horn

Submitted by Alice, who says,
I sing this song when I am sad and need to contemplate life. It helps me deal with loss. The melody is beautiful and the lyric is poignant. It was Shirley Horn's closing song.

       Changes — David Bowie

Submitted by Mike.

       Hard Drive — Cassandra Jenkins

Submitted by Liz, who writes,
Cassandra Jenkins' "Hard Drive" is a song about renewal (see sample lyrics below). And the video is a gem of a story, musically told. "I can see you’ve had a rough few months, but this year, it's gonna be a good one / I’ll count to three and tap your shoulder / We’re gonna put your heart back together."

A Walk On The Wild Side — Lou Reed
