This is an interesting combination of Georgia Middleton — who is a country songstress in a trio with Dan Fogelberg who did pop music when I was growing up.

Runners up: "Sober & Skinny by Brittnery Spencer; "Jesus Loves Me" by the Austin Lounge Lizards; "Cold One Comin' On" by Montgomery Gentry; "Farther Down the Line" by Lyle Lovett; k.d.lang's cover of "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray;" anything on Elvis Costell's "Almost Blue" album; and Kinky Friedman's (the one who ran for governor of Texas in 2006) very politically incorrect "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore."
"You Are My Sunshine", recorded by the Pine Ridge Boys in 1939.

This is officially "hillbilly" music, the Appalachian predecessor to Country. The song fits many of our prior categories: nobody really knows the original composer, although it is attributed to Oliver Hood. It was copyrighted by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell, who almost certainly didn't write it. Jimmie Davis went on to become the governor of Louisiana — the song is the state song in his honor. It has been covered hundreds of times, one of the most famous being an R&B crossover by Ray Charles in 1962.
