John Corigliano: The Red Violin Caprices

Submitted by Myndall, who writes: "Please count this beauty as my submission. It’s too good to not be in the archives! It's such a coincidence that Neil had a master class with this amazing violinist!"

Dreamers Circus performing "A Room in Paris"

Submitted by Liz, who writes, "There are other instruments, but the violin is the star, IMHO. The violinist also plays with the Danish String Quartet."

       Power of Carnatic Violin

Submitted by Scott, who writes, "Indian Classical Carnatic music. Here is a duo of brother, Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan, and his sister Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi. They are children of one of the most renowned violinists in India, Lalgudi Jayaraman."

Beethoven: Violin Concerto. Fritz Kreisler, violin.

Submitted by Lewis, who writes, "I have it set to start early in the development (about 10:06). Listen through the end of the first movement (23:56). Recorded in 1926 with Berlin State Opera Orchestra. I love this old-school violin style! I love his playing of one of my favorite moments in all of music, at 12:31."

       Laurie Anderson: Song for Juanita

Submitted by Mike. Listen from 1:30 to the end. This performance is on a "tape bow" violin, where there is a recorded voice track that is played when the bow is drawn against the strings. This results in the voice that you hear at different speeds and pitches.

Laurie Anderson: The Speed of Darkness

Submitted by Mike. Listen from 0:27 to 2:45. A good example of the unique violin that is Anderson’s trademark instrument.

       A bonus track

Submitted by Mike. Bonus track if you want: Laurie Anderson on David Letterman, playing a traditional violin in an offbeat way. They don’t make television like this any more.

       Penderecki: Threnody

Submitted by Bob. The full title is "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima." New submission as of 16 August 2023.

We will also have performances by violinists Meg Bowen and Neal Eisfeldt.
